The mission of Ellipse Health is to provide as many people as possible with the effective
tools to add to their health tool-box so they can feel empowered to take control of their
own health and thrive throughout life! When it comes to nutrition and health, I believe that
so many people are walking around blind – not because they aren’t trying, but because the
information that exists on this topic is hugely conflicting and often inaccurate. I like to think
of Ellipse Health as the light that guides you through the dark tunnel. You are the person
that gets yourself to the other side, but we are there to serve, direct and support you along
Whilst working alongside so many clients, we'd absolutely LOVE to hear a hot tip that anybody can take on board to getting closer to being the best version of themselves!
In my opinion, one of the first steps to take is to just eat real food (again, keeping it simple!). The question then is – well, what is real food? Unfortunately, we live in a time where our food supply is full of highly processed products that are so far from their natural state, most people cannot even identify what’s inside them or where they come from! You should be
completely aware of the ingredients that you are letting in to your body. You should be fully
in control of the fuel you are choosing to run your cells on. You should not be consuming
foods whereby the ingredients list is a long paragraph of numbers and words you don’t
Real food is minimally processed food that looks as close to its form in nature as possibl
An avocado, for example looks very similar to how you’d find it if you picked it straight off
an avocado tree! A whole egg is another great example of a real food. You could even keep your own chickens and eat the delicious eggs they produce for you. A muesli bar or sugary cereal, on the other hand, is very difficult to trace back to its natural source(s). The ingredients list on these types of packaged foods is also very long – they are generally filled with artificial colours, flavours and preservatives (just check the use-by date – should food last that long?).
Some traditional processing methods such as mincing (e.g., minced meat), fermenting (e.g.,
yoghurt, sauerkraut), shelling (e.g., shelled nuts) and pressing (e.g., cold-pressed olive oil)
are highly natural and do not require the use of chemicals, excessive heating, additives or
preservatives. I’d still classify these types of foods as real, nutritious foods.

Tell us a little more about what you do as a nutritionist.
I provide a range of nutrition and dietetic services to individuals and groups via Ellipse
Health. I work closely with medical doctors and other allied health professionals within two
private practices in Newtown NSW and Concord NSW. I also provide individual consultations over the phone and via Skype so that individuals can access me services from wherever they are in the country, or the world!
During an individual consultation, I would assess a person’s medical history, medications,
supplement use, pathology results (blood tests), social circumstances, physical activity
levels, nutrition-related signs and symptoms, and dietary intake. I would then use all this
information to formulate a set of nutrition diagnoses, which are basically the individuals’
main nutrition-related problems. I generally prioritise these diagnoses and negotiate with
the individual as to which one(s) should be addressed first. Then I develop a dietary
intervention that is specific to the individual’s health goals. This intervention is supported by
thorough dietary education so the person is well equipped with the knowledge as to why
they are doing what they are doing. I have recently created an online weight loss program
that is full of juicy content to educate and support individuals on their health journey! This
program acts as a service on its own, but it is also designed to support my existing patients
I wouldn’t say that I have “typical” client because all my clients are so unique! My clients
typically suffer from one or more of the following:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Gestational diabetes mellitus
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome
- Cardiovascular disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Binge eating disorder
